- It's that time of year again (already!), so, Seasons Greetings and all that! Be happy and safe, enjoy yourself and try not to stress too much! Also, a big Thank You to individuals, community agencies, and businesses who have supported COSPRO throughout the year.

- Speaking of Christmas, guess who's the latest target in the worldwide struggle against the 'obesity epidemic'? That's right, none other than our kids' number one Christmas hero, Santa Claus! Yes. Santa has been accused of acting in ways that could "damage millions of lives": The big man in the red suit has been put under the microscope by Dr Nathan Grills, public health fellow at Monash University's Department of Epidemiology and Preventative Medicine, Australia.

- My apologies if you didnt get the June Newsletter. Technical difficulties at this end (not the least of which was the untimely passing of my office computer!). If you did get the Newsletter then you may need to bear with me as Im going to repost some of the issues raised in that Newsletter to ensure that they are sufficiently distributed. - Child obesity sometimes seems to be an almost 'seasonal' issue with regards to media coverage and general public concern: It's in the newspapers every second day for a few months, then there's nothing at all... And then it's back again. I guess there are many public health issues which experience this same sort of seesawing effect - for example breast cancer awareness. We've just had Breast Cancer Awareness week and right now nearly everyone is attuned to the seriousness of this issue, but ask those same people about the problem in 6 months' time and many of them will probably give you little more than a blank stare.
